Project Description

DEF-24-7.96, U.S. 24 Reconstruction

Owner: Ohio Department of Transportation, District 1
Construction Cost: $36,700,000

Reconstruction of 2.8 miles of U.S. 24 on the west side of Defiance, Ohio from an existing Super 2 Highway into a 4-lane divided highway. Included in the project was the design of two twin river bridges over the Maumee and Tiffin Rivers; one twin overpass structure over High Street; the complete redesign and replacement of the U.S. 24 / S.R. 15-18 interchange; and the construction of a connector road and other intersecting roads. Extensive maintenance of traffic plans were included that allowed the project to be built under traffic. The interchange and bridge were designed to allow all ramp movements during all phases of construction. This project was a section of the “Fort to Port” improvements of U.S. 24 from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Toledo, Ohio.
